Agenerase Medicine - Uses, Dosage and Side Effects

Agenerase is a potent anti-HIV medication when used in combination therapy. It is a member of the protease inhibitor class of anti-HIV drugs. Agenerase is the first of the "second generation" protease inhibitors. Agenerase combination therapy is not a cure for HIV or AIDS. In the US, Agenerase has been granted accelerated approval for HIV positive adults and children ages 4 years and older.

Agenerase Dosage

*If you are taking Capsules, then the usual starting dosage for adults is 1,200 milligrams twice a day.
*If you are using oral Solution, then the usual starting dose for children 13 years of age and over is 1,400 milligrams twice a day.

Uses of Agenerase

*Amprenavir is used in combination with other antiretroviral medicines to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), that may causes acquired immunodeficiency syndrome.
*It may also be used to treats other medical conditions those are listed in this medication guide.

Side Effects of Agenerase

Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Agenerase.

More common side effects may include:

* Abdominal discomfort or pain
* Diarrhea
* Fatigue
* Gas
* Headache
* Nausea
* Skin rash
* Vomiting
* Mouth tingling

Warnings and precautions before taking Agenerase:

*Remember that Agenerase does not completely eliminate HIV, and that it is still possible to pass the virus to others through sexual contact or blood contamination. Continue to practice safe sex while using Agenerase.
*This medicine may increased your blood sugar while you are taking Agenerase.
*You should tell your doctor your medical history such as allergies, diabetes, high blood cholesterol or fats, liver problems, kidney problems, blood disorders.
*If you have kidney or liver problems, then you should be used this medicine with extra caution.
*Agenerase can interfere with oral contraceptives. Use a backup form of birth control (such as condoms) to avoid an unwanted pregnancy.

Drug Interaction :-

*Agenerase also contains vitamin E, therefore vitamin E supplements should not be used while taking Agenerase. The drugs Hismanal, Propulsid, Halcion or Versed should not be taken with Agenerase.
*Rifampin lowers Agenerase levels in the blood and therefore should not be used.

Overdose

Symptoms of an amprenavir overdose are unknown. But after taken Agenerase if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it may lead to another serious effect.

Little is known about the symptoms of Agenerase overdose. However, any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately.
