Bad breath is a very common problem and there are many different causes. Bad Breath is usually caused by the breakdown of proteins by bacteria in the mouth. Food eaten such as garlic and spicy foods once absorbed into the body can release odor through the lungs when you breathe.

The tooth attracts bacteria containing plaque and if not cleaned regularly and thoroughly, this can result in large accumulations of bacteria which result in bad breath. The second most important cause is bacteria breaking down protein between your teeth. By the way, the gases and other molecules that the bacteria produce are toxic and can harm your gums as well.
Although everyone gets bad breath sometimes, if you have bad breath a lot, you may need to visit your dentist or doctor.

Causes of Bad Breath

If you don't brush daily, particles of food remain in the mouth, collecting bacteria in your mouth, which can cause bad breath. Food that collects between the teeth, on the tongue and around the gums can rot, leaving an unpleasant odor can also major cause of bad breath.

Bad breath is also caused by dry mouth, which occurs when the flow of saliva decreases. Saliva is necessary to cleanse the mouth and remove particles that may cause odor. Dry mouth may be caused by various medications, salivary gland problems or continuously breathing through the mouth.

Tobacco products also cause bad breaths, stain teeth, reduce one's ability to taste foods and irritate gum tissues. Tobacco users are more likely to suffer from periodontal disease and are at greater risk for developing oral cancer.
There is also bad breath that is associated with certain diets, such as the Atkins diet. In order to efficiently burn fat, you need a certain amount of carbohydrate, and the Atkins diet is a low carbohydrate diet.

Home Remedies of Bad Breath

*Chewing mint leaves will soon freshen up the breath.
*Brushing teeth after every meal will prevent bad breath.
*Gargle with baking soda dissolved in warm water. It can also be used for cleaning tongue.
*Eat more fruits and vegetables every day. Eat less meat.
*Unripe guava is useful in halitosis. It is rich in tannic, malic, oxalic, and phosphoric acids as well as calcium, oxalate, and manganese. Chewing it is an excellent tonic for the teeth and gums. It helps cure bleeding from gums and stops bad breath. Chewing tender leaves of guava tree also stops bleeding from gums and bad breath.
*Certain herbs and spices you keep in your kitchen are natural breath enhancers. Carry a tiny plastic bag of cloves, fennel, or anise seeds to chew after odorous meals.
